Barcelona Cable Cars - Tickets and Information
There are three major cable car options in Barcelona which often confuses people and regularly users show up at the wrong one with the wrong ticket, so here we will clearly identify each one for you, to ensure you know which one you want!
- Telefèrico de Montjuïc - The Cable Car that goes up Montjuïc Hill (Montjuïc Cable Car)
- Transbordador Aeri del Port - The Cable Car that starts at Barceloneta Beach.
- Montserrat Cable Car - The Cable Car that takes you up and down Montserrat Mountain
BARCELONA CABLE CAR 1
Montjuïc Cable Car Tickets
- To give it its full title, this is the 'Telefèrico de Montjuïc' but we will call it the 'Montjuïc Cable Car' as its easier.
- Montjuïc Cable Car Operating Hours: Daily: 10:00 - 21:00
Where does it go
- The Montjuïc Cable Car links Barcelona to the top of Montjuïc hill where you can enjoy the incredible views of the city as well as the other attractions on Montjuïc hill such as the castle!
- The journey up the hill starts at 'Parc de Montjuïc' and ends at 'Castell de Montjuïc'.
- The journey down is slightly different - it starts at 'Castell de Montjuïc' but it also stops at 'Mirador de l’Alcalde' on the way down and is an optional stop for passengers to enjoy. At 'Mirador de l'Alcalde' stop you can get off the cable car and enjoy 'Miramar Costa i Llobera', 'Cinto Verdaguer' and 'Joan Brossa gardens', which offer some of the best views of Barcelona.
How to get to the Montjuïc Cable Car
There are a few ways to reach the Montjuïc Cable Car station. You can:-
- Take a quick funicular ride (separate ticket required) from Paral·lel metro station to Parc de Montjuïc and then jump on the cable car to enjoy the 750-metre cable car trip to the top of Montjuïc hill. You can also hop-on and off at the stops on route which include Parc de Montjuïc, Miramar, and Castell de Montjuïc.
- You can take the other Barcelona cable car up from Barceloneta Beach (details of the other Barcelona cable car below) to the station and walk across to the Montjuïc Cable Car Station (just a few minutes and clearly signposted).
- You can also use the Barcelona Hop-on Hop-off Bus service from Barcelona as one of its stops (on the Red Route) is the Montjuïc Cable Car Station!
What you will see on the Montjuïc Cable Car
- On the cable car route (which will take around 5-minutes) you can enjoy the birds-eye-view of Barcelona including famous landmarks such as the Sagrada Familia.
- Parc de Montjuïc stop - 'Fundació Joan Miró Museum' the 'Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya' & 'Poble Espanyol' and the Olympic Ring can all be found at this level.
- Castell de Montjuïc stop - the Castle can be found at this stop, as well as the Botanical Gardens.
- Mirador de l'Alcalde stop - this stop can only be accessed on the downward journey and provides access to the Montjuïc green zones and offers some incredible vantage points of the city including the Miramar Gardens and the Mossen Costa i Llobera Gardens.
What you will see when you reach the top of the Montjuïc cable car and Montjuïc hill at the Castle Stop
Once you reach the top you will arrive at Montjuïc Castle (Castell de Montjuïc), the 17th century fortress and former prison where you can enjoy the amazing views of the city.
See if you can spot the Sagrada Familia (fun fact: Gaudi purposefully built the Sagrada Familia to be 170 meters tall - just 1 meter shorter than Montjuïc hill, as Barcelona's highest point - as Gaudi believed man's work shouldn't surpass God's!) and Torre Glòries from the viewpoints, as well as enjoying the views of Barcelona harbour.
There are many other attractions to enjoy whilst on Montjuïc hill as noted above as its also home to Poble Espanyol, the Fundació Joan Miró, Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Olympic Stadium as well (all require their own admission tickets - see our ticket options for details).

At this level visitors can enjoy the area which offers multiple activities such as Poble Espanyol (tickets required - click here for details) or enjoy the Botanical Gardens.
