Picasso's wife, Jaqueline Picasso, also dedicated a range of ceramics to the museum in 1982. The museum was founded by Jamie Sabartés in 1963 and is another of Barcelona's major tourist attractions in the art scene. Jamie, a close friend of Picasso's, opened the museum whilst Picasso was still alive and with his blessing, as he wanted all to be able to enjoy his works.
The museum is housed in a spectacular building in the El Born neighbourhood and is a group of separate buildings that are joined by interconnections which also create a spectacular labyrinth effect, which adds to the character of the museum.
The museum is a must for any art lovers, but especially Picasso fans as the museum was important to Picasso having spend several years of his youth in Barcelona as he studied at the prestigious La Llotja art academy, which also had other family ties as his Father was a professor there.
